Instructors of first-year students: Submit midterm grades by Mar. 9
Midterm grades can provide a huge benefit to first-year undergraduate students. Only 65% of midterm grades for first-year students were submitted last spring from CALS courses. Instructors can help raise this number and support more new undergraduate students.
All instructors with first-year students in their course received an email about submitting midterm grades. Midterm grades (or “mid-semester” grades) help first-year students and their advisors support the transition to college. You can report semester-to-date grades in your Faculty Center. These grades are only visible for a few weeks and do not appear on a student’s transcript.
Midterm grades give a concrete way to see partial-semester performance across courses. Having complete midterm grade information also helps advisors differentiate students who may be struggling in a single class (and doing well in other classes) from students who may be having difficulties in multiple classes.
Only midterm grades entered through Faculty Center will be reported to academic advisors and to special program advisors (such as the Center for Educational Opportunity, Center for Academic Excellence, etc.). Since these advisors can provide useful support to your students, please consider officially reporting midterm grades.
