CALS student enrollment numbers for 2025-2026

A total of 1,050 new students joined CALS this fall, including 843 first-year undergraduates, 84 undergraduate transfer students and 120 new graduate students. The college saw an increase of more than 20% in new undergraduate students.

The Sixth Week Enrollment Report indicates the college has a total of 4,169 undergraduate students this fall including new and returning students, up 9.9% from last year. Of the current undergraduate total, 55.5% are Wisconsin residents. CALS has a total of 855 graduate students, down 7% from last year.

UW–Madison enrolled 8,500 first-year undergraduates this year, down 0.18% from last year. These students were selected from 73,912 applicants, up 12% from last year. The incoming class at the UW–Madison represents every one of Wisconsin’s 72 counties. Students also hail from all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and more than 50 countries outside the U.S.
