De Herde’s project explores the role of value chains in supporting transformative farm practices, with a focus on the diversity of value chain coordination models that can be mobilized towards these goals. Using a configurational approach, she aims to gather data from empirical cases of values-based value chains in the Midwest and beyond. Her analysis will examine combinations of governance choices (governance structures, degree of integration, nature of coordination) and stakeholder interactions, and features and context observed empirically, with the goal of supporting agricultural transformative practices within the development of just value chains.
