Food Research Institute accepting applications for 2026 Summer Undergraduate Research Program in Food Safety

The Food Research Institute (FRI) is currently accepting applications for its 2026 Summer Undergraduate Research Program in Food Safety. The program, which runs May 26 – July 31, 2026, provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to explore the field of food safety.

Participating students study and conduct research in the lab of a mentor on a project related to food safety. Each week, the students attend a tutorial session during which they learn about and discuss timely issues with one or more speakers from campus or the food industry. Students also get the opportunity to visit Wisconsin food manufacturers to hear how food safety impacts their production.

Participants write research reports as well as present a brief seminar of their work at the conclusion of the program. Participants who complete all required portions of the program will receive a $6,000 stipend (before taxes).

Applications for the program are due Jan. 23, 2026. For more information about the FRI Summer Undergraduate Research Program and to apply, visit https://fri.wisc.edu/about_students.php or contact Adam Borger at (608) 263-7062 or adam.borger@wisc.edu.
