Microsoft ends support for Windows 10 on Oct. 14, 2025
Microsoft Windows 10 support ends October 14, 2025. Microsoft will no longer provide security updates for the Windows 10 operating system. Any computer running Windows 10 operating system will continue to function. However, using a machine running an unsupported operating system can lead to potential security risks. CALS IT has been diligently working within each CALS department to identify and update any Windows 10 machines prior to the deadline.
CALS IT is aware that not every machine will be updated or replaced within the timeframe allowed. For machines still running Windows 10 after Oct. 14, there is a plan. Microsoft provides what are called Extended Security Updates (ESU) licenses. With such a license, the computer will continue receiving monthly updates. Individuals do not need to purchase their own ESU license. CALS IT will order the necessary ESU licenses for computers within the college using the process put forth by DoIT. The licenses will be ordered, paid for, distributed, installed and tracked by the CALS IT team including the IT support person/persons within each CALS department.
