Following positive site visit, college continues full accreditation for using animals in research and teaching

Following their visit to the campus for comprehensive assessment, the AAALAC International Council on Accreditation commended CALS personnel for an excellent program of laboratory animal care and use. Reviewers noted the strong administrative commitment; knowledgeable, enthusiastic and engaged staff; healthy and well cared for animals; well maintained facilities; excellent animal care by the professional veterinary team; engaged Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) members and diligent support staff; a well-designed emergency response plan; and a well written and accurate Program Description.

AAALAC International is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through a voluntary accreditation program.  Accreditation benefits our research program by demonstrating our commitment to animal welfare and scientific validity, thereby promoting research funding opportunities.

More than 1,100 companies, universities, hospitals, government agencies and other research institutions in 50 countries have earned AAALAC accreditation, demonstrating their commitment to responsible animal care and use. These institutions volunteer to participate in AAALAC’s program, in addition to complying with the local, state and federal laws that regulate animal research.
