UW Applied Population Lab reports on Wisconsin’s Hmong population

A recent report, “Hmong in Wisconsin: A 2020 Statistical Overview,” found that the Hmong population in Wisconsin reached 62,331 as of 2020, a 25% increase over the population 10 years prior. This makes the Hmong the largest Asian ethnic group in the state, with significant communities in Milwaukee, Marathon and Sheboygan counties. The detailed report, led by the UW Applied Population Laboratory and based mostly on the 2020 Decennial Census and the 2017-2021 American Community Survey, highlights key demographic, social and economic trends. Notable findings include higher median household incomes, a strong presence in the manufacturing labor force, and improvements in education and poverty rates over previous years.
