Transition to 1Password begins Dec. 2
Sent by DoIT Communications to LastPass users on behalf of the Office of Cybersecurity.
Colleagues,
On December 2, we will transition from LastPass to 1Password as our recommended password manager. Since you have been identified as a LastPass user, we are providing more details about this impending change.
Transition Timeline
From December 2 through December 6, current LastPass users will receive instructions on how to set up a 1Password account and migrate existing LastPass passwords to the new system. Accounts will be created using the same email as LastPass and NetID login. Users will have until May 2025 to migrate their passwords. Additional details on migration can be found in the 1Password KB: 1Password – Migrate your passwords from LastPass
Current 1Password users
If you already have a 1Password account, it will not be affected by this transition. UW–Madison has its own instance of 1Password, uw-madison.1password.com, where users will be added. If you have a personal account using a wisc.edu email address it will remain a personal account, even if a 1Password account is created for you with the same wisc.edu email. Users can login to multiple 1Password accounts at the same time to easily access university and personal passwords.
Users will also be able to redeem a free 1Password families account once their university account is active. This can be applied to an existing 1Password personal account.
