CALS Student Center opens, giving students a home in Ag Hall
Students looking for a study spot this semester should check out the CALS Student Center in the lower level of Ag Hall. Complete with desks and comfy couches, this quiet space is great for doing your homework, studying for a test, or waiting for your next class to start. This drop-in space is open to all students during building hours – 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday-Friday (closed on Saturday and Sunday).
The octagonal space located at the bottom of the front entry staircase has housed many tenants over the years. The university’s Agricultural Library moved here from its original South Hall location in 1903, the year Agricultural Hall was first constructed. So, the first occupants of this area were primarily students looking for reference materials and a quiet spot to study. In 1969, the library’s collections moved to Steenbock Memorial Library a few blocks away. After the library moved, this space housed offices, classrooms and workspaces.
The college has begun fundraising efforts to completely remodel the entire space as a greater gathering place — a hub, a headquarters, a home — for the whole CALS community. For now, it’s a place meant for students to plug in, power up, study, and chill in between classes.
