Abstract:
 Groundwater stores provide over one-third of drinking water in the US, with 15% of US households on private wells. Groundwater microbiomes are increasingly recognized for their roles in nutrient cycling and groundwater quality, but little is known about the impacts of surface influences like land use and climate on groundwater communities. This seminar will present ongoing research into how subsurface microbial communities reflect surface infiltration and contamination events, as well as potential ecosystem services provided by groundwater microbes.
