Search underway for a new associate dean for extension and outreach
Dean Glenda Gillaspy announced applications are being accepted from current faculty interested in the role of associate dean for extension and outreach in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Dean Gillaspy is collaborating with Karl Martin, dean of the Division of Extension, to appoint a search committee, which will be chaired by Russ Groves, professor, chair and extension specialist in the Department of Entomology. Additional committee members will include representatives from both Extension and CALS, including a graduate student. The role, currently held by Doug Reinemann, oversees outreach programs and the extension portfolio within CALS.
The application deadline is June 17, 2024. The position announcement – Position Vacancy Listing #298916 – is available on the Jobs@UW website under Internal position opportunities.
Doug Reinemann will return to his faculty position in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering department on July 1 and will remain engaged with the Rural Partnerships Institute, Native Nations and other projects.
“The college appreciates Doug’s leadership and dedication to our land-grant mission and Extension, says Dean Glenda Gillaspy. “It has been wonderful working with and learning from Doug, and we wish him the best.”
Reinemann began serving as associate dean in 2017, a time of significant structural change for cooperative extension programs in Wisconsin. During this period, Extension moved to UW–Madison and underwent an internal reorganization. He is the first to serve in this role focused completely on CALS activities and actively collaborating with Extension institute directors in program areas from agriculture, to community development, 4-H, natural resources, and health and well-being.
Dean Karl Martin of the Division of Extension says, “Prior to becoming the CALS Associate Dean for Extension, Doug Reinemann was a successful extension specialist providing important programming to the dairy industry and farmers around milking equipment and technology. Doug built off of that success to provide critical leadership for the Division of Extension as it went through major transformations over the past eight years.”
