Manure Expo to feature operating pelletizer, separators, and innovative land application technologies

The North American Manure Expo is returning to Wisconsin for the first time since 2017, adding a variety of live manure processing and technology demonstrations to this year’s event

Held Aug. 9-10 at the UW–Madison Arlington Agricultural Research Station, near Madison, this year’s Manure Expo is adding live demonstrations of three different manure separators and a manure pelletizer to the lineup of agitation and land application demonstrations.

“With the growth of digesters, RNG, and manure treatment systems, producers want to see firsthand how well these machines work using actual manure from the reception pit,” notes Expo co-chair Kevin Erb, of the UW–Madison Division of Extension. “Watching it, hearing it operate — this is not something that you can do at other farm shows.”

In addition to the separator demos, the Aug. 9 schedule includes head-to-head demonstrations of manure agitation boats and tractor agitators and safety discussions/equipment walkarounds from experienced manure applicators and industry professionals. Tours of an operating manure digester, manure runoff research trials and the host farm’s manure system are also available.

Aug. 10 kicks off with educational sessions on the latest in manure research and technology from experts across the U.S., followed by demonstrations of seven solid manure spreaders, six liquid tankers/toolbars/dragline systems. Field demonstrations wrapping up the event include rapid manure transfer systems, using a hose bridge to safely move manure over a road, and a dragline pressure release safety demonstration.

More than 60 manure technology vendors will be setup in the trade show and available both days of the event. Attendees can also test drive two manure application setback map systems, view research posters and meet with researchers from both across the Midwest and New England.

The Expo is a joint event hosted by UW–Madison’s Division of Extension and the Professional Nutrient Applicators Association of Wisconsin. Erb expects more than 1,000 manure applicators and farmers from across the Midwest to attend the Expo.
