Ellison Lab to host UW Hemp Research Field Day on Aug. 17

The Ellison Lab in the Department of Horticulture is hosting a field day about the latest hemp research being conducted here at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

The event will be held Thursday, Aug. 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Arlington Agricultural Research Station (N695 Hopkins Road, Arlington, WI 53911). Coffee and donuts, provided by Batch, will be available starting at 8:45 a.m.

Presentations will be given in a “speed run” format, with 10 minute presentations followed by 5 minutes for Q&A. Attendees will be shuttled to trials/presenters across the research station. The presentations will be given by UW faculty and staff, as well as members of Extension focusing on their respective research priorities, including:

  • Using data to select compliant cultivars
  • Industrial (grain/fiber) hemp variety trials
  • High cannabinoid hemp variety trials
  • Efforts to preserve and characterize hemp germplasm
  • IPM diagnostic tool development
  • Understanding anthocyanin accumulation in cannabis
  • Companion cropping in hemp
  • Evaluation of hemp fiber production and quality
  • IR-4 program and hemp research
  • Feasibility of hemp as forage
