CALS Wellness Committee tip: Bakke Recreation & Wellness Center is opening soon

Did you know that UW–Madison will be the home of a new, state-of-the-art recreation and wellness center?

The Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center (pronounced bah-kee) is located on campus at 1976 Observatory Dr, in close proximity to Lake Mendota and the Lakeshore Path. The center is scheduled to open on April 24, pending any final changes to the construction schedule and will provide many options to help the community reach their wellness goals. According to the comparison chart provided by RecWell, the community can expect to see the following features at the Bakke Center:

  • 29,000+ sq ft of fitness space
  • 8 courts
  • An ice rink
  • An 8-lane, 25-yard recreational pool
  • 4,300 sq ft of wellbeing services
  • A 3-lane indoor jogging track
  • 5 multipurpose rooms
  • A performance training center
  • A teaching kitchen
  • Sport simulators
  • All-gender showers and locker areas to accommodate all visitors/members

RecWell has provided rendered photos of what this space will look like upon completion (scroll down to the bottom of the provided link). By looking at these photos and the floor plan, it’s safe to say this will be an impressive facility.
