ARS users: Sign up for required pesticide online training

This spring, the Agricultural Research Stations Department will again be offering the Worker Protection Standard (WPS) safety training for pesticides. There will be 12 online training sessions utilizing Zoom scheduled for April and May. The online WPS courses are scheduled for Apr. 6, 13, 17, 21, 27 and May 3, 11, 19, 25, 30.

As a reminder, the WPS standard is a federal regulation which requires that all UW faculty, staff, students, or LTE’s who will be doing research on stations where pesticides are applied receive this training once a year. To register for an online WPS training session, visit https://www.talent.wisc.edu/Catalog/Default.aspx?tabid=29&SeriesKey=366.

Register for one session of “WPS for Field Workers” whether you work in fields or greenhouses.  The training points covered apply to either setting and will satisfy yearly training requirements.

Other key points:

  • If you are a certified pesticide applicator, you are exempt from WPS training.
  • If you intend to apply restricted-use pesticides, you must be certified as a pesticide applicator. WPS training is not a substitute for applicator training.
  • These sessions are NOT designed for those who are new to working in the campus greenhouses.
    • For a greenhouse orientation session (which can be combined with WPS training) contact Deena Patterson at Walnut Street Greenhouse deena.patterson@wisc.edu
  • If you cannot attend any session, contact Amber Walker amber.walker@wisc.edu or Deena Patterson deena.patterson@wisc.edu to arrange individual training.

If you have any questions, please contact Amber at (715) 340-6341 or amber.walker@wisc.edu.
