Spring CALS CASI update, welcome event on Feb. 15

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Committee on Academic Staff Issues (CASI) would like to welcome you to the Spring Semester of the 2022-23 academic year! We have all been dealing with uncertainty for the past two years, but we bring hope and eagerness into this upcoming semester.

The CALS CASI represents academic staff across the college and is an important part of shared governance at UW–Madison.

CASI representatives, who meet monthly during the academic year, advise the CALS Dean’s Office on the development of policies and procedures that impact academic staff. In the past year, we have worked on developing a set of best hiring practices for academic staff, given Academic Staff Excellence Awards, and been involved with the development and implementation of research professor and teaching professor titles.

We have met a few times this year and discussed a variety of topics. Minutes from those meetings, along with more information about CASI including past annual reports, are all available on our website.

If you wish to share ideas or concerns with your CASI representatives, or if you have questions, you can find a list of CASI members at http://casi.cals.wisc.edu/contact/. We encourage you to become informed about issues affecting CALS academic staff. Additionally, please let us know if you are interested in becoming involved in CASI — we do have opportunities to be a representative yearly when current member terms expire.

Finally, we are pleased to inform you about CALS Academic Staff Networking Event! This event will take place on Wednesday, February 15, 8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. in the Genetics/Biotech Center atrium room 1111. It will be an opportunity to meet and welcome new staff to the college including our new college Dean and the Associate Deans, interact with colleagues, find common ground/mutual support, and find shared issues of concern. A virtual option will be available. Please view this document for the agenda and registration information.
