Tara Darga named executive assistant to Dean Glenda Gillaspy

Tara Darga is the new executive assistant to Dean Gillaspy, replacing Therese McHenry who left for a position in the School of Medicine and Public Health in late summer. Darga initially came to CALS in August 2022 as the administrative assistant in the Office of the Dean and Director. In her new role reporting to Dean Gillaspy, she will oversee scheduling for the dean and manage special projects. She can be reached at (608) 265-1301, tara.darga@wisc.edu, or by visiting 140 Ag Hall.

What is your educational/professional background, including your area(s) of specialization/focus?
I received a B.S. in horticulture from UW–Madison. Over the past twenty years, I have gained extensive customer service experience, including working in retail.

What attracted you to this position in CALS?
In part, it was the fast paced, support position but I’m also proud to support a higher education institution, especially one that makes significant scientific contributions to Wisconsin and the world. I fell in love with the university during my undergrad years and it feels like I’m returning home now that I am working here.

What are you most looking forward to as you start as the executive assistant to the dean?
I am excited to get to know more staff across campus. There are so many unique people working here that I would love to connect and collaborate with.

What is your hometown? Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. I put down roots in Madison after graduating from college and found it the perfect place to raise a family.

What are your hobbies and other interests?
My family and I lead an active outdoors lifestyle hiking and camping. Our favorite place to visit has been Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore where we can get away from all technology and electricity. I personally love bicycling, cross country skate skiing, ice climbing, camping and reading.
