Launch party for new UW–Madison Student Organic Farm collaborative

Members of the CALS community are invited to help celebrate campus’ new Student Organic Farm collaborative at a launch party at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Gordon Dining and Event Center’s north patio. The event will have live music, food, speakers, and networking opportunities with student organizations. This event is a celebration of organic agriculture and a way to kick off the growing season, while uniting agriculture-focused student organizations on campus.

The Student Organic Farm is a collection of agricultural plots (including F. H. King, Wunk Sheek, and Greenhouse Learning Community) at Eagle Heights Community Gardens. The formalization of these plots into a collective Student Organic Farm is designed to help students communicate their involvements with future employers and secure grant funding for Student Organic Farm-based projects. Another goal for the Student Organic Farm is to provide farm plots to student organizations that are interested in growing plants at Eagle Heights.

The Student Organic Farm is part of the UW Organic Collaborative, a group of faculty, staff, and partners committed to furthering organic agriculture using research, academics, and outreach. The produce from the farm will be used in the new UW Electric Food Truck on campus in order to contribute to UW–Madison’s sustainability and local food system.

The launch party was organized by a group of undergraduate students in Hort 372: Organic Colloquium, including Jacob Breit, Megan Draheim, Kai Heineman, Ben Lebowitz and Sofia Weinstein.
