CALS Wellness Committee tip: Making a peaceful relationship with food
The new year can be a difficult time, with a barrage of messaging about dieting and weight loss going around in the media and being shared by family, friends, and coworkers. It can be refreshing – and affirming – to find articles that focus instead on tips/resources for people interested in making a peaceful relationship with food.
As a counterpoint to last week’s CALS Wellness Committee post on “How to Manage the Wintertime Eating Blues,” this article features a list of resources for individuals curious about alternative paradigms to mainstream diet culture:
- 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating – website by Evelyn Tribole, MS, RD, CEDRD-S and Elyse Resch MS, RD, CEDRD-S, authors of several books
- 7 Simple Strategies for Finding Peace & Freedom With Food – Free Audio Guide by Christy Harrison, MPH, RD, CEDS available at https://christyharrison.com/
- Health at Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight – book by Lindo Bacon, PhD
- The Body is not an Apology – website and book by Sonya Renee Taylor
- Fat Phobia and its Racist Past and Present – NPR soundbite and transcript, interview with Sabrina Strings, PhD, author of Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fat Phobia
- Maintenance Phase – Podcast by Aubrey Gordon and Michael Hobbes
These resources are free, or can be borrowed from a local library.
Here’s to a happy, healthy new year!
