October update from University Bicycle Resource Center

Here comes the autumn weather…what a great time to ride your bike!

The University Bicycle Resource Center’s first virtual class went well in September, so we’ll be continuing the virtual bicycle mechanics class series on Tuesday, October 13th, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. with “Basic Bicycle Brakes”. In this class, we will discuss brakes and minor brake adjustments. Follow along at home on your own bike, or just watch and listen in order to identify and learn how to use your barrel adjusters, as well as clean your braking surfaces. This free class will be taught by India Viola, local bicycle advocate and educator. Pre-registration is required through WebEx. Once you are approved by the host, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions for joining the session. Register at

The shop itself continues to be closed for the fall semester out of an abundance of caution due to the high number of touch points and in an effort to try to limit the spread of COVID-19. However, you can still perform DIY bicycle repairs at outdoor air and repair stations located throughout campus (see the map at ).

In this crazy time bicycling is probably one of the safest and healthiest forms of travel, so get out there. Be safe, be well, and hope you are having a great fall semester!
