Following Chancellor’s Blank’s message earlier today about furlough, work-share programs, reassignments and leave provisions, I want to highlight some details that may be most relevant to personnel in our college.
- These programs begin May 15. COVID-19 leave has been extended through May 15.
- Graduate assistants, post-docs, temporary employees and student employees are exempt from the furloughs.
- The campus-wide furlough will apply to all other employees regardless of their salary funding source.
- The majority of employees across CALS are able to work remotely. For people not able to work, additional information about other options will be shared with those employees in the coming weeks.
I will be briefing department chairs, center directors and administrators about these provisions on Friday. Until then, I encourage you to review the detailed information on the Office of Human Resources (OHR) website. You may also contact your CALS HR manager with questions that are not covered on the OHR site.
As a reminder, UW-Madison has a personnel system separate from other UW System schools and from state employees at other state agencies. Furloughs at other campuses, System administrative offices or other state agencies do not pertain to UW-Madison employees.
Finally, I recognize that this has been a very difficult time in many ways for all of you and for our CALS students. I am appreciative of your efforts every day to deliver on our core missions of instruction, research and outreach, despite these extremely challenging conditions.
