CDC Director’s presentation canceled, replaced with coronavirus panel – Jan. 29

According to the School of Medicine and Public Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield’s planned visit to Madison this week has been canceled after he was called away on CDC business. Due to strong interest in the presentation, SMPH has decided to hold a related event in Redfield’s absence, featuring a panel of campus experts discussing the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). “Hot Topics in Public Health: Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in Real Time” will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. in Room 1306, Health Sciences Learning Center. All are welcome.

The top-notch panel of nine scientists, physicians, epidemiologists, and experts in infection control, global health, clinical testing, vaccine development and health system responses will reflect on the emerging coronavirus outbreak.

Those who had originally registered for Redfield’s talk will receive an email with an update about the change in plans. Pending panelist permissions, SMPH anticipates that the event will be livestreamed at, and a post-event recording will be available at the SMPH video library.
