Express your interest in serving on governance committees

Shared governance at UW-Madison provides academic staff, university staff, faculty, and students with the opportunity to help make significant decisions concerning the operation of the university through over 40 distinct committees.  These committees span a variety of interests, including: communications, compensation, awards, diversity, student affairs, transportation, athletics, information technology, and many more.

The Nominating Committee is one of these committees, and its charge is to connect interested academic staff members with potential committee assignments and upcoming committee elections. The nominating committee uses the results of the Committee Interest Survey to find fellow academic staff members interested in serving on various committees.

We invite and encourage all academic staff to complete the Committee Interest Survey by logging into the Committee Tracker tool at https://committeetracker.wisc.edu.

  • Use your NetID credentials to login.
  • Once you have logged in, the home page will display ‘take survey now’ button.
  • Click the ‘take survey now’ button to complete the survey.

The Committee Interest Survey must be completed if you wish to be considered for current and future committee openings.  The survey provides a comprehensive list of all committees with links to more information, including committee charges and current committee membership. You may resubmit this survey at any time to update your committee interests. Indicating your interest via the survey is not binding.

Committee participation at UW-Madison is a great way for academic staff members to grow personally and professionally.  Members have the opportunity to meet staff outside their units, to learn more about how things work at UW-Madison, and to have a voice in campus issues.

When a seat opens on a given committee, a member of the Nominating Committee reviews the current Committee Interest Survey results to find those who expressed interest in serving on the committee and reaches out to those who seem to be a good fit with the given committee’s charges and composition.

Please note that not every committee has openings for new members every year. Regular elections for standing committees of the Academic Staff Assembly take place each spring. Regular appointments to other shared governance committees are also made in the spring.

If you have any questions about logging into or using the Committee Tracker, please contact Jake Smith (jake.smith@wisc.edu) or Heather Daniels (soas@soas.wisc.edu).

Thank you for your interest in shared governance at UW-Madison!
