Heather White, associate professor in the department of dairy science, will serve as a special assistant to Dean Kate VandenBosch on issues related to dairy innovation. In this new role, White will work closely with the dean and members of the college’s administration on emerging programs to serve the Wisconsin dairy industry.
One such program is the Dairy Innovation Hub, the $8.8M initiative to fund dairy research at the three UW System agricultural campuses. While funding was included in the state biennial budget, it has not yet been released. Spending plans require additional approvals from the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee, which is expected to consider the measure in October. Once approval is gained, input from stakeholders inside and outside of UW will be important to guide implementation of the hub.
“Heather’s experience makes her well-suited to gather input and provide advice on how the college can best support innovation in agricultural programs to support the dairy industry,” says Dean Kate VandenBosch.
White’s role began earlier this month.
