Continued Scrutiny in the House on USDA’s Proposed NIFA/ERS Move

The House Agriculture Committee Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture and Research held a hearing this week scrutinizing the USDA proposal to move NIFA and ERS out of Washington DC. Agronomy Professor Bill Tracy was among those who testified. Last month, the USDA announced three finalists and two alternatives, including Madison, as possibilities to relocate the agencies. While Democratic House Appropriators hope to stop the move with language in the FY 2020 spending bill, the USDA is moving quickly on the relocation. Earlier this week, USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue said the relocation decision would be made within “days and weeks.”
