Senior Associate Dean Straub announces his retirement, search begins for replacement
Dick Straub announced plans to retire at the end of this fiscal year following a 40-year career in the college as a faculty member and administrator. Dean Kate VandenBosch posted the position for Straub’s replacement and named Horticulture Professor and Extension Specialist Jed Colquhoun as chair of the search committee.
Straub assumed the role of senior associate dean in June of 2013. As senior associate dean, Straub has led faculty personnel issues, including hiring 52 faculty members since 2013. He played important roles in planning for new facilities, gaining authority from the Wisconsin legislature to purchase and sell agricultural lands and managing reductions to the college’s budget following cuts to UW System. Straub also provided leadership in academic affairs, extension and external relations during transitions and when other staff were on leave.
“I am extremely grateful for Dick’s leadership over the past five years. His deep knowledge of this college and his strong personal commitment to our students, faculty and staff and our mission will be deeply missed.” said Dean Kate VandenBosch.
The deadline for assured consideration for applicants for the senior associate dean is February 1, 2019.
