Dietram Scheufele, professor of life sciences communication, has been selected to co-chair the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine‘s Standing Committee on Advancing Science Communication Research and Practice. The committee will work to advance science communication through three goals: 1) build a coherent knowledge base of what evidence-based social science tells us about effective science communication; 2) make it easier for science communication practitioners to access, interpret and use research to inform their practice; and 3) support individuals and organizations in communicating science outside the scientific enterprise.
Scheufele is the John E. Ross Professor in Science Communication and Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor. He is an expert on science communication, political communication, and science and technology policy. His most recent research examines the role of social media and other emerging modes of communication in democratic decision making.
