Call for Proposals for the Teaching and Learning Symposium

2017 UW-Madison Teaching & Learning Symposium May 17, 2017

Session and Poster Proposal Deadline: Sunday, January 22, 2017

Theme: Teaching the Wisconsin Experience

The Wisconsin Experience is a unique set of institutional values to which those who support teaching and learning contribute each day. This historical mission connects us – faculty, staff, and students – as a community that fosters an appreciation for diverse perspectives, seeks active engagement with each other in both curricular and co-curricular learning opportunities, and shares the vision to lead for positive change.

The 2017 Teaching and Learning Symposium aims to bring campus together to share ideas about student learning, collaborate with colleagues, and discover unexpected networks.

We are seeking proposals for engaging presentations and posters that spotlight teaching and learning across campus and specifically address one or more of the following new Wisconsin Experience dimension areas:

Empathy and Humility
o Develop and demonstrate cultural understanding of self and others
o Engage locally, nationally, and globally in respectful and civil manner
o Appreciate and celebrate one another’s abilities, views, and accomplishments

Relentless Curiosity
o Actively learn with expert teachers, scholars, and peers
o Engage in creative inquire, scholarship, and research
o Develop resilience and foster courage in life and learning

Intellectual Confidence
o Develop competence, depth and expertise in a field of study
o Integrate ideas and synthesize knowledge across multiple contexts
o Exercise critical thinking and effective communication

Purposeful Action
o Apply knowledge and skills to solve problems
o Engage in public service, partner with others, and contribute to community
o Lead for positive change

Proposed session presentations will be 60 minutes long, connect to the symposium theme and feature clear plans for the audience to participate in the session.

Posters submissions should have a clear purpose and also connect to the symposium theme.

Faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students are all welcome to submit proposals.
The deadline to submit proposals is Sunday, January 22, 2017. Presentation and poster submission forms can be found at: http://tlsymposium.wisc.edu/call.htm.
