Plant pathology’s Doug Maxwell wins award for collaborative research on grain legumes

Douglas P. Maxwell, an emeritus professor of plant pathology, recently received a Meritorious Achievement Award from the USAID Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Grain Legumes. The award recognizes Maxwell’s efforts in characterization of bean-infecting geminiviruses, pioneering research on engineering beans for resistance to these viruses, as well as for his many years of administrative service to the management committees of Bean Cowpea Collaborative Research Support Programs.

Maxwell was one of four people to receive an award, which were given in conjunction with of the 2016 International Year of the Pulses, an international meeting of the World Cowpea Conference and the Pan-African Grain Legume Conference, held from 28 February to 4 March 2016 in Livingstone, Zambia. Over 450 scientists from around the world attended this meeting.
