The Wisconsin Agricultural Education and Workforce Development Council will host the first AgriFuture Summit on April 8 & 9 in Madison. The Summit will bring together representatives from production agriculture, business and industry, education, government, economic development and student leaders from the secondary, technical colleges and universities to answer three basic questions:
- What is the future of agriculture (defined as farm to fork)?
- What are the challenges and opportunities in getting to that future?
- What do we need to do to make sure we have the best possible workforce in place to meet those challenges and opportunities?
The Summit will utilize leadership panels from industry and education to gain insights to these questions, and Dean Kate VandenBosch will be a panelist. Summit attendees will participate in discussion groups to further develop answers to each of the questions. That information will be used, in part, to develop future priorities for the Council in their efforts to ensure that Wisconsin can attract, develop and retain the workforce required to meet the needs of Wisconsin’s production agriculture, industry, food and natural resource sectors.
