Please join the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems for an author event featuring Jules Pretty on Saturday, November 15, 3 p.m. at Barnes and Noble West. Dr. Pretty will read from his new book, “The Edge of Extinction: Travels with Enduring People in Vanishing Lands,” followed by a book signing.
In “The Edge of Extinction,” Jules Pretty explores life and change in a dozen environments and cultures across the world, taking us on a series of remarkable journeys to show that there are many different ways to live in cooperation with nature. From these accounts of people living close to the land and close to the edge emerge a larger story about sustainability and the future of the planet.
Hailing from eastern England, Jules Pretty writes on the importance and relevance of nature for people. He was awarded an OBE in 2006 for services to sustainable agriculture. Dr. Pretty is visiting Madison in honor of the 25th anniversary of CIAS, and he will give a public lecture on “Sustainable Intensification in Agricultural Systems” on Nov. 14, 3pm at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery.
This event is possible thanks to the generous support of the Lectures Committee General Fund and the UW-Madison Agroecology Program, Agronomy Department and Soil Science Department.
Barnes and Noble West is located at 7433 Mineral Point Road, Madison (West Towne Mall).
