Throwback Thursday: Department of Soil Science

FHKing Last week’s edition of #ThrowbackThursday on the CALS Facebook page features pictures from one of our original departments—Soil Science, which was founded 125 years ago as the Department of Agricultural Physics.
Two of the photos feature King Hall. Named after Frank H. King (third photo), the building serves as the department’s home today. Professor King was hired in 1888, founded the Ag Physics department in 1889 and has served as an inspiration to CALS students ever since. Specifically, his work is remembered by his namesake F.H. King Students for Sustainable Agriculture, a CALS student org that runs a farm and hosts education and outreach activities in support of small-scale sustainable agriculture.
