I am pleased to announce the first annual awards recognizing faculty, academic staff, and post-doctoral fellows and graduate students for the outstanding work they do in mentoring and involving our undergraduates in their areas of professional activity. The new Awards for Mentoring Undergraduates in Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities, will provide $1,000 to a faculty member/research group, academic staff member or post-doctoral fellows/graduate students in alternating years, for excellence in undergraduate mentoring. Up to four awards will be given each year, one in each of the four divisions (Arts and Humanities, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences and Social Studies). The descriptions of the eligibility requirements, selection criteria, and application materials are described on the attached sheet.
Please share the attached information widely among your faculty. Next year awards will be provided to outstanding academic staff, and the following year to post-doctoral fellows/graduate student mentors. The awards will be presented to recipients at the Undergraduate Symposium on Thursday, April 10, 2014, in Union South.
