One of the “next steps” determined by last year’s Strategic Planning Exercise was to set up working groups to focus on several key areas of interest. Some of these areas for followup action were identified by the workgroups that delved into education and structure, while others were identified through discussions with stakeholders.
Alumni engagement is one of those targets of additional planning. The goal of this project is to develop a roadmap for college alumni relations activities that appeal to all alumni. One question under discussion is the changing demographics of our current students and recent alumni. Do our current activities appeal to the interests and needs of our current and future alumni? (View the alumni engagement work group’s charter.)
The alumni engagement working group includes: Sara Anderson (staff, UW Foundation), Rob Anex (professor, BSE), Al Herrman (BS’77, WALSAA Board member), Kara Luedtke (staff, CALS External Relations), Sean McMaster (BS’10, Biochemistry and Math), Jacquie Hitchon McSweeney (professor, Life Sciences Communication), Megan O’Rourke (career services staff, CALS Undergraduate Programs &Services,), Jean Peterson (student services coordinator, Genetics) and Tara Talbot (BS’96, Soil Science) and Heidi Zoerb (assistant dean for External Relations and Advancement).
The group is already at work. Members plan to survey CALS alumni and inventory our current alumni activities with an eye toward providing a set of recommendations in early 2014. Recommendations will be forwarded to the CALS Academic Planning Council.
