The Association of Women in Agriculture (AWA) is currently looking for an advisor for the organization. The advisor’s role includes attending officer meetings and the majority of membership meetings (membership meetings alternate every other Monday with officer meetings). The advisor will also help promote all AWA events and spread the word about the organization throughout campus.
AWA is a professional, service, and social student organization on campus that is geared toward women with agricultural backgrounds and women who are interested in entering careers in the agricultural industry. However, students do not need an agricultural background to join. AWA currently has 80 active members and 31 potential members who will become active in November 2014. Members pursue a variety of majors including: food science, dairy science, animal science, physiology, and pre-medical majors. AWA has 4 officers on the Executive Team, 10 Coordinators, 1 House Manager, and 1 House Steward. Some of the events that AWA plans are Formal Interviews, Breakfast on the Farm, Meet Your Meats Event, and Diggin’ It Fundraiser. Social events include a scavenger hunt, dinners with AGR and Babcock, and movie nights.
