Dr. Edwin Michael “Mike” Foster, professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, died this past February in Madison at the age of 96. He was an internationally respected authority on food microbiology and coordinated the transfer of the Food Research Institute (FRI) from the University of Chicago to UW-Madison. He became the FRI’s first director in its new home and over the next 20 years oversaw the Institute’s growth from a small research group into a world leader in food safety and foodborne disease research.
The FRI will host a celebration of the life and legacy of Mike Foster on May 21 from 1:30 – 4:00pm at Attic Angel Community in conjunction with the FRI’s 2013 Spring Meeting. For more information, contact Barbara Cochrane at firstname.lastname@example.org.
