Gonsiska named assistant dean for academic programs and policies
Phil Gonsiska has joined the CALS Office of Academic Affairs (which includes Undergraduate Programs and Services) as Assistant Dean for Academic Programs and Policies. Gonsiska began his duties on April 1, with a focus on curriculum, assessment, and teaching & learning in undergraduate, graduate and FISC programs. He will become Honors Dean at the start of the fall semester, overseeing the CALS Honors program known for its Honors in Research emphasis. Gonsiska also joins the team of staff who serve as dean on call and as SOAR advisors.
“Phil’s experience in conducting international research, his skill at working with students, and his appreciation for data-based decision-making make him an ideal fit for this challenging position,” notes Associate Dean Sarah Pfatteicher.
Gonsiska earned his B.S. in Plant and Soil Science at the University of Kentucky (summa cum laude), his M.S. in Biology at Florida International University, and his Ph.D. in Botany at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has worked in the Office of Undergraduate Programs and Services as a Student Services Coordinator since 2011.
