CIAS receives funding for innovative farm-to-school program

Earlier this month, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack visited Madison to announce $101 million in grants supporting America’s specialty crop producers. The UW Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems received funding through this program for an innovative farm-to-school effort that aims to provide public schools with affordable mixes of ready-to-roast Wisconsin-grown vegetables, and, in the process, open up new markets for the state’s vegetable growers. The program is described in more details in this CALS news release about it.

CIAS director Mike Bell and farm-to-school staff member Vanessa Herald attended the press conference announcing the grants, where they had their photo taken with Vilsack.
