APPLICATION DEADLINE: 4:30 P.M.
AUGUST 3, 2012
Funding Opportunity: http://www.cals.wisc.edu/research/funding/DisplayOpp.php?OppID=271
A Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) was entered into by The Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System on behalf of the Graduate School and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (“CALS”) of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (“University”), the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (“WARF”), and the Wisconsin Crop Improvement Association (“WCIA”). WCIA is a non-profit organization started by faculty, based on the UW campus, and housed in Moore Hall. Historically, WCIA has been involved in seed certification and in helping faculty develop, release, and evaluate cultivars.
Approximately $100,000 per year will be available to support the development of cultivars and other plant germplasm, and for which rights are or will be assigned to WARF. A committee with representation from WARF, WCIA, CALS, and CALS Departments of Agronomy, Horticulture, and Plant Pathology will evaluate the proposals for germplasm to be developed, the development tasks, and the amount of payment. Development tasks may be carried out by WCIA as appropriate.
CRITERIA: Cultivars and other plant germplasm developed with the use of these funds must be unencumbered by intellectual property rights for agreements with entities other than WARF and WCIA. Exceptions may be made after negotiations by WARF. The review committee will consider the prospects for the proposal to yield a commercial product in the near future, alternate sources of funding for the development work, potential marketability for the product and expected revenue return, previous successes and progress from prior funding from this source and the scope of the project relative to the scientists’ overall germplasm program.
PROJECT PERIOD: September 1, 2012, through December 31, 2013
A Final Report will be due February 28, 2014. This is required to receive future funding from this program.
Format: A standard format (see the funding opportunity on the CALS Research Division page) is provided to streamline proposal preparation while also providing for the expedited review of the proposed project and its likelihood of contributing to the goals of the partnership.
Proposal Submission: NEW THIS YEAR: A WISPER record IS required for this submission. See the Call for Proposals for the required format of the WISPER record and proposal.
Call for Proposals: http://www.cals.wisc.edu/research/funding/WARF-WCIA_2012.pdf
Application Deadline: No later than 4:30 p.m. on August 3, 2012. Time extension requests will not be granted.
***Proposals received after 4:30pm on August 3, 2012, will not be accepted
