Communicating science in the age of denial

Last week’s Science Writing in the Age of Denial conference drew a number of CALS faculty, staff and students. The two-day event held in Union South and Wisconsin Institutes for Discover, drew science communicators from across the country and across campus. Among the event’s four keynote speakers was Sean Carroll, Professor of Genetics. His talk was titled: The Denial of Evolution, and the Evolution of Denial: We Have All Been Here Before. LSC associate professor Dominique Brossard was on a panel focused on  Covering Controversy in a Changing Media Landscape, while LSC professor Dietram Scheufele was on another that looked at Persuasive Writing in a World of Denial. Among those attending the conference was Dean Kate VandenBosch and several of the college’s professional science communicators.
