Susan Smith’s paper honored as best in Birth Defects Research journal

A paper from the lab of nutritional researcher Susan Smith was selected to receive the 2012 Teratology Society‘s James G. Wilson Outstanding Publication Award. This annual award recognizes the best paper published in the journal Birth Defects Research during the previous year, as determined by the society’s publications committee.

Smith is corresponding author of the winning paper, titled “Calcium-mediated repression of b-Catenin and its transcriptional signaling mediates neural crest cell death in an avian model of fetal alcohol syndrome.” First author George R. Flentke and co-authors Ana Garic, Ed Amberger and Marcos Hernandez are all from the UW-Madison Department of Nutritional Sciences, as well.
