One route to international students’ happiness is through their stomachs. Walt Goodman knows this, which is one of many reasons that he was nominated and selected to be honored for his friendship and support to international students on campus at this year’s Wisconsin Alumni Association’s International Student Graduate Celebration.
“He often takes students to local places to eat international food and lets them—or at least their stomachs—feel at home,” was one of the comments on the letter written by students in support his Goodman’s nomination.
“The students noted the number of international students he has worked with in his research and how much they appreciated him, and the fact that he is always amiable, approachable and ready to help a student in need,” says Kim Santiago of WAA. “They said he went beyond being a teacher to being a friend, and almost a second parent.”
