William J. Hickey, Professor of Soil Science, has been appointed the first O.N. Allen Professor of Soil Microbiology in the Department of Soil Science. The professorship was created with gifts from the trusts of Ethel K. Allen, and is a permanent endowment memorializing her husband, Oscar N. Allen, a distinguished soil microbiologist.
