Calling all academic staff! If you haven’t already, it’s time to sign up for the Academic Staff Institute, set for April 13. The registration and payment deadline is April 6. Click on this link to register.
The Institute will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Madison Concourse Hotel and Governor’s Club. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m.
The breakfast keynote, titled “Leadership By and For Academic Staff: Toward an Excellence-Rewards Initiative,” will be given by Steve J. Stern, UW-Madison vice-provost for faculty and staff. From there, participants will be able to attend three of twelve available sessions, including:
- Working together to achieve shared goals, with Don Schutt
- Information on the revamped Mentoring Program
- Strategies for being your own advocate, with Kay Simmons and John Mather
- The art of relaxation through Chinese exercise, with Donna Silver
- Communicating with The Clover Practice, with Kathleen Paris
- Latest news on unit clarification and collective bargaining
Registration costs $25 and includes a full breakfast buffet and luncheon. Vegetarian options are available.
The Madison Academic Staff Association (MASA), one of the event’s sponsors, is doing its best to sweeten the deal: People who sign up for the Academic Staff Institute and join MASA will have their $25 conference registration fee refunded (as long as they paid it using personal funds). In addition, their first year of MASA membership, through Oct. 2011, will be waived. After that, MASA membership costs $10 per year.
Parking for the Academic Staff Institute is available at the Madison Concourse for $7.00 and in the parking ramp across the street for $0.85 per hour. Riding a Madison Metro bus is another good option.
