USDA has released the RFA for the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative. Information regarding the AFRI program is available at www.nifa.usda.gov/funding/afri/afri.html, and the RFA may be downloaded at www.nifa.usda.gov/funding/rfas/afri_rfa.html.
USDA has restructured the program significantly into a total of 7 targeted RFA’s: the Foundational Program, 5 Challenge Areas, and Fellowships.
Please review the RFA’s and program areas carefully for deadlines and requirements, including letters of intent. LOI’s will be required by many programs, and the first LOI deadlines are in mid-April. Please also note:
Your CALS Research Division pre-award contact (www.cals.wisc.edu/research/staff/index.php?1?Cp8) should be copied on email submissions of AFRI Letters of Intent.
All AFRI proposals will be submitted via Cayuse. (www.rsp.wisc.edu/cayuse/index.html)
The Research Division has two training sessions scheduled that will be specifically targeted to preparing the AFRI proposal forms in Cayuse, preparing budgets for the AFRI, and other AFRI requirements. The first session is scheduled for April 6, and the same session will be offered again on April 12. A detailed description of the sessions and registration are online:
