Jennifer Kushner, a graduate sltudent working in the Environmental Resource Center, received the national “Graduate Student Research Award” for the best doctoral research in adult education from the Adult Education Research Conference recently. Jennifer presented a paper on Wangari Maathi, who founded the Green Belt Movement. The movement started as a community-based tree planting campaign with rural women in Kenya and grew into an international environmental, pro-democracy, human and women’s rights and peace movement. Maathai won the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize.
