The Iron Cross Society invites you to nominate an undergraduate student of junior or senior standing whom you believe has outstanding academic, leadership and service achievements on campus and in the community.
The Iron Cross Society was established in 1902 by a small group of seniors who were interested in solving some of the problems facing the University community. Members played an instrumental role in the creation of Memorial Union, and members have since contributed to the growth of the Madison campus community. Consequently, the names of all past and present members are memorialized on the iron shields hanging in the first floor of Memorial Union. Distinguished alumni include Senator Russ Feingold ’75, former UW Athletic Director Pat Richter ’63, and Clifford Behnke ’67, Wisconsin State Journal Senior Managing Editor. Additional information may be found at: http://www.union.wisc.edu/ironcross.
Iron Cross is unique because faculty members, academic staff, student leaders and student organizations are all asked to nominate students. While GPA is taken into consideration, selection of members is based more on students’ extracurricular and community accomplishments.
I hope you’ll consider nominating a student for this prestigious honor society. Nominations should include the following information: Student’s Name, email address, Year in School, How You Know the student (2-4 sentences) and Your Reason for Nominating the Student (2-4 sentences). Please submit nominations by Friday, February 26, 2010.
Nominations are accepted via email:
