Arlington station co-workers share Gulf War stories at Vet’s Day observance

Two CALS staff members, Shawn Wheeler and Jeff Breuer (left), co-workers at the Arlington Agricultural Research Station, were featured in an article published in the Portage Daily Register on Nov. 3. The article describes how the pair, both veterans of the Gulf War (the original one in 1991), spent an evening at the station headquarters last week putting together a presentation about their wartime experiences for a Veteran’s Day Ceremony at the Wyocena Community Center.

Breuer, a member of the Wisconsin National Guard 13th Evac Hospital, was in Saudi Arabia in January 1991, and served at a tent hospital near Hafar al Batin through April 1991. Wheeler was a 19-year-old UW-Platteville undergrad whose Madison-based Marine reserve unit, Delta Company Second Battalion 24th Marines, served in Saudi Arabia near the Kuwait border, from New Year’s Day until the end of April 1991.
