CALS announces deadline (Feb. 27) and process for proposing faculty positions

In 2007-2008, our Academic Planning Council and Administrative Team went through an extensive faculty position proposal process. We were not able to fill positions from this process because of budget restrictions, but we did accumulate substantial amounts of valuable information about departmental priorities with respect to hiring. Therefore, we intend to retain the position proposals and rankings submitted last year as part of this year’s process. However, we recognize that departments may wish to provide updated or revised position proposals in this year’s process, or replace proposals from last year with new proposals this year. To that end, this memo summarizes the process by which we are soliciting position proposals this winter.

We are also aware of the difficult budget situation we are entering now, and we realize that our ability to fill new faculty positions may be quite limited. However, the prioritization and planning that are part of this exercise have been invaluable to the college’s APC and administration over the years, and we are planning to continue to evaluate proposals this coming spring.

Please keep in mind that the proposal deadline is close of business (4:30 p.m.) on February 27, 2009, and we will not be able to accept late proposals.

We welcome input or discussion with your department on this process at any time.
