The CALS & Friends One-A-Week Blood Club was founded to help ensure a steady supply of blood for patients in need, and the group aims to make a combined total of at least 52 donations per year. The club engages in friendly competition with other campus units such as DoIT, Memorial Library, and Veterinary Science, as well as organizations throughout Dane County. In recent years, the number of donations from the CALS & Friends Club has declined from around 300 in 1999 to less than 100 in 2006. Please join the club to help raise the numbers!
Its easy to participate. After you make a donation at a blood drive, Union South/Youngblood or the Red Cross, make sure to jot down the CALS & Friends One-A-Week Blood Club number (#111) in the One-A-Week record book, which is located at the refreshment table. If you are at a blood drive where no record book is available, simply email Julie Young Julieyoung@wisc.edu with your name, and the date and location of your donation. Julie will ensure the CALS & Friends Club is credited.
An upcoming opportunity to give blood:
To ensure that a healthy supply of blood is available for patients during the July 4th holiday week, the Red Cross is hosting the 7th Annual Beach Days blood drive. The event will be held at Madisons West- and East-side Blood Donor Centers from July 2nd through July 7th. Donors will have a chance to win Noahs Ark tickets, gas cards and Red Cross tote bags filled with summer items. Donors are strongly encouraged to make an appointment by calling 1-800-GIVE LIFE (800-448-3543) or visit www.givebloodgivelife.org.
